Dr Nektarios Siachos is an Assistant Professor in Ruminant Husbandry at the Department of Agriculture, School of Geotechnical Sciences, International Hellenic University (2026–present). He holds a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from the University of Thessaly, an MSc in Husbandry and Internal Medicine of Production Animals, and a PhD from the School of Veterinary Medicine, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. His doctoral research focused on protein balance and skeletal muscle mobilization during the transition period in dairy cows. He completed postdoctoral research at the University of Liverpool (2022–2024), where he worked on Innovate UK funded projects developing and validating precision livestock farming and artificial intelligence technologies for the automated monitoring of dairy cow health, lameness and welfare. He subsequently served as Lecturer in Animal Husbandry at the School of Veterinary Medicine and Biosciences, Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC), United Kingdom (2024–2026).
His research focuses on ruminant health, welfare, nutrition and management, veterinary epidemiology, and the application of precision livestock farming and artificial intelligence in animal production. He has participated in 14 research projects in Greece and the United Kingdom and has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed scientific papers and over 40 conference presentations at national and international scientific meetings. He serves as a reviewer for several international journals, including the Journal of Dairy Science, Animal, Animal Feed Science and Technology, and Preventive Veterinary Medicine.
